This park is a gem. The sites are large, well laid out so you aren't lined up like sardines and beautifully shaded with large trees. There is easy access to the beach which is beautiful. Interesting hiking and bicycling paths. Excellent area to few the many types of birds. The park is convenient to Myrtle Beach and a lovely garden. Great place to stay!

We stayed here for 3 months work camping. Remembering that this is a state park I would rate it a 10. So many activities put on by the rangers, wonderful tour of Atalaya, great biking, great bird watching and of course a beautiful beach. I would say the bathrooms need more attention but they are heavily used so lots of sand.

We absolutely loved this park. We stayed in a travel trailer in an 30 amp electric and water site. Beware The gates close at night and it is hard to find the hours they are open. We got in late (blown tire delayed us 4 hours)and fortunately the ranger was locking up later than normal. If you pre-register they will give you info on gate locks etc. The entrance can be tough to negotiate late at night if locked. The sign for the back loops can be confusing while finding your site. We will be going back. The trip from Atlanta takes about 6 hours if traffic is good. It is a bit convoluted to get to. There are only 2 ways in and out of the area. We used north entry through Conway. Watch the stoplights, the yellow lights seem a bit short to me. Locals seem to be used to dealing with RVs. Some gas stations are not laid out very well for travel trailers. Onto the Park itself. 1) Lots to do. Fishing, hiking, nature watching on the causeway to see the little gators do watch gators do, the sand & surf are a given. They have a very nice camp store, gift shop etc.. Pints of ice cream in the freezer (a camping must) 2) The beach is a bit of a hike from the campgrounds but they have raised walkways and showers when you get covered in the very fine beach sand. 3) Some full hookup sites, they tend to be booked well in advance so book early! 4) Lots of young kids on bikes. Give them lots of room or stop til they negotiate past you! 5) A bit of work to get leveled. Gravel/packed sand spots. Power and water connections were fairly well placed. Lots of ants on the water connection found their way into our trailer up the water hose! 6) 3 lanes at the dump site that worked well. They are well placed, clean & easy in and out. 7) Mostly shaded spots but some are in the open and would get pretty hot in the SC sunshine. We will be going back for a week later this year (2014)

A scenic, quiet oasis of a state Park just 15 miles south of the Strand and Myrtle Beach crowd. The sites are level and well spaced, and there is a variety of W+E and full hookup up. Free WiFi but signal is poor at the moment as one of the wash houses/router sites is under repair. Easy access to a beautiful beach which provides 2+ miles to walk dogs (on leash). While we were here, we rented a car from Enterprise to go to local seafood restaurants, but Uber is also available to pick up from the Campground. Great security with a visible , friendly and helpful Ranger presence, plus the gate is closed at 10pm ( campers get a combination key). As a birder, the location and shore habitats could not be more perfect...I'm sure in a month the northward migration will bring in many species..just wish we could stay till then.

My wife found this park a couple of years ago & it is one of our favorites. Nice sites with water & electric with some in a wooded area. Bath & toilet facilites are nice. Personnel have been great! There's a really nice bike path that winds through the trees & parallels the main road. Of course, if it's warm be sure to take bug spray. The beach is a small hike, but worth it.

Stay in new section. Brand new level cement pad and FHU worked fine great. If you like peace and quiet with a nice great beach, this is the place. Site #134 provides extra room and privacy, as it adjacent to the woods on the left side

Full hookups available only on handicap sites on North end, large sites with shade, entrance signage needs upgrading, large lighted sign facing south, very small (smaller than a speed limit sign) facing north. Clean and well kept up. Staff friendly.

The south campground has concrete pads but no privacy because of the layout. Also WiFi does not reach the end of the row, site 158. Trash dumpsters are few and far between. Quite a hike. Beach is beautiful they lock the gate in/out at 6pm which is totally ridiculous. Might want to come back in the summer for the beach alone, but not the rest. South campground has full hook

Beautiful place to visit. Spacious, level camp sites. Open spaces between rows. Clean, modern, heated bathrooms. Lots to do. Easy walk to a terrific beach. Atalaya historical tours. Brookgreen gardens and zoo a short biking distance.

Siye # 35 Very surprised at how large the sites are. We had site right next to the beach access path and loved it. One of our favorite trips and will be back yearly to enjoy this treasure! Off season is our favorite time. Low crowds. Feels like you have the entire beach to yourself .

As beach campgrounds go this is very nice. We had a spot in the South campground which for isn't nearly as nice as the North campground (for our style anyway). Very much enjoyed our time kayaking, hiking and biking. It is very expensive as campgrounds go but not for a beach campground ($54 - $61).
